Silicone-free greases for lubricating stopcocks and movable joints in vacuum systems such as desiccators, rotary evaporators, vacuum traps, and ground glass joints
Apiezon® H, L, M, and N greases consist of distilled, petroleum-based, complex hydrocarbons. Vapor pressure curves are available for each product over its working temperature range.
Within the Apiezon® range there is a grease designed to suit most applications. H grease has thermal conductivity properties and high temperature resistance, preventing it from melting at high temperatures (stiffens above 40°C). L and M greases are particularly good lubricants, with L grease being recommended for ultra high vacuum systems and M in slightly less critical, high vacuum systems. Both products show resistance to irradiation. Structural properties make L and M greases effective as a stationary phase in gas-liquid chromatography. N grease is specifically for use in cryogenic applications, displays a rubbery consistency, and works well as a cushioning lubricant.
Greases demonstrate “gettering” properties (the ability to extract chemical impurities), and hence are well-suited to electronic applications as they remove organic impurities from a metal surface and do not form insulating films.
