Paraffin is a mixture of clear paraffin wax, hydrocarbon polymers or resins designed to increase hardness and support, as well as other waxes and additives in lower amounts. Many different and specialized paraffin formulations exist to offer multiple efficient options for any laboratory scenario. Variables to consider when choosing paraffin is melting point, degree of polymerization, and working temperature. These are most conveniently delivered as wax pellets with exceptional clarity for observing biopsy samples.
