The zwitterionic character is attributed to the presence of both a strongly basic quaternary ammonium ion and an acidic sulfonate ion of equal strength. This ionic balance presumably prevents irreversible binding of the detergent to either anionic or cationic compounds.

Caution: Following reconstitution, refrigerate (4°C). Aqueous stock solutions are stable for several months at 4°C.
