Useful fluorescent mitochondrial membrane probe used to analyze mitochondria by flow cytometry and measure changes in mitochondrial mass during apoptosis.

  • Fluorescent mitochondrial membrane probe

The phospholipid cardiolipin (CL), is found almost exclusively in the inner membrane of mitochondria and loss of CL is considered as an important indication of cell apoptosis. 10-N-octadecyl acridine orange (C18AO) has been used as a fluorescent probe for the visualization of CL in mitochondrial cell membranes and in solution, with excitation and emission wavelengths at about 500 and 525 nm, respectively.
