SIN-1 is a potent vasodilator, activator of guanylyl cyclase, inhibitor of platelet aggregation, general cysteine protease inhibitor, and has been shown to produce significant protective effects in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion. Some of the effects of SIN-1 can be attenuated by nitroglycerin-induced tolerance.
Liberates nitric oxide (NO) spontaneously when in solution, activating guanylyl cyclase and causing an increase in cyclic-GMP. This product is a vasodilator and inhibits platelet aggregation. Using molecular oxygen, it generates both superoxide anion and nitric oxide that spontaneously form peroxynitrite.
Completely soluble in water (25 mg/mL), DMSO (10 mg/mL), and ethanol (10 mg/mL).
