N-(1-Naphthyl)ethylenediamine, dihydrochoride is used for colorimetric determination of sulfonamide in blood. It is used for spectrophotometric determiniation of nitrite and nitrate.

It is also used as a coupling agent for the spectrophotometric determination of aminophenols, phenylenediamines, dinitroanilines, chloroanilines, thiols, and sulfonamides. Solution of N-(1-naphthyl)ethylenediamine dihydrochloride in sulfuric acid-methanol may be employed for the quantitation of sugars.

Soluble in water (20 mg/ml - almost clear, colorless to slightly yellow solution; 1g/50 ml). It is readily soluble in 95% alcohol, dilute HCl, and hot water. It is slightly soluble in cold water, acetone, and absolute alcohol.
