The protein MGARP, also named as C4ORF49, CESP1, HUMMR, OSAP and GS3582, plays a role in the trafficking of mitochondria along microtubules. It regulates the kinesin-mediated axonal transport of mitochondria to nerve terminals along microtubules during hypoxia. MGARP is localized to the mitochondria in cultured human CE, and its N-terminal seems to be processed after mitochondrial import. The MW of MGARP is about 33-36 kDa.
