MUTYH(MutY homolog) is also named as MYH and belongs to the Nth/MutY family. The gene enconde an A/G-specific adenine DNA glycosylase that it is involved in oxidative DNA damage repair and initiates repair of A*oxoG to C*G by removing the inappropriately paired adenine base from the DNA backbone. Possesses both adenine and 2-OH-A DNA glycosylase activities. Defects in MUTYH are a cause of familial adenomatous polyposis type 2 (FAP2) and gastric cancer (GASC). It has 6 isoforms produced by alternative splicing with the molecular weight between 57 kDa and 60 kDa.
