The MYB protein is a transcription factor that plays a key role in regulating the proliferation/differentiation of progenitor cells in bone marrow, colonic crypts, and neurogenic niches . It is involved in the regulation of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and invasion in neuroblastoma, colon carcinoma, and embryonic kidney cells through the upregulation of the transcription repressor Slug . It also a DNA-binding protein that specifically recognize the sequence 5'-YAAC[GT]G-3', and plays an important role in the control of proliferation and differentiation of hematopoietic progenitor cells.
