Adenosine monophosphate deaminase (AMPD) catalyzes the deamination of AMP to IMP and plays an important role in the purine nucleotide cycle. Three AMPDs are present in mammals. AMPD2 is the predominant form in smooth muscle, non-muscle tissue, embryonic muscle and undifferentiated myoblasts. At least four transcripts of AMPD2 were reported. The longest one encodes a protein with calculated MW of 101kda.
