The ribosomal protein S3 is a subunit of 40S ribosomal protein, and has two distinct function. RPS3 acts as a ribosome protein that contributes to the domain of the ribosome where translation is initiated, and involves in repair of UV damage as an endonuclease. Besides binding RNA within the 40S ribosomal subunit, RPS3 participates in transcription, and apoptosis.
