IKIP(Inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa-B kinase-interacting protein) is also named as IKBIP and acts as a novel p53 target gene with proapoptotic function. A variety of experiments looking at endogenous IKIP1 levels showed that IKIP1 expression is dependent on p53. Transfection of IKIP into endothelial cells promotes cell death, as measured by TUNEL staining. EST analysis and RT-PCR demonstrated that 3 IKIP transcripts are generated; IKIP1 encodes a 377-amino acid protein, IKIP2 a 350-amino acid protein, and IKIP3 2 potential ORFs encoding 70- and 245-amino acid proteins.
