Human adrenomedullin is a 52 amino-acid peptide (mw 6029) with the physiological effect of lowering blood pressure through vasodilatation, an effect it shares with calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP). In addition, adrenomedullin produces cardiovascular effects such as growth and development of cardiovascular tissues and bone, and effects in the central nervous system connected with the regulation of fluid balance.
