Placing Orders

To be ordered, products must first be added to the Shopping Basket. This can be done from three primary locations:

  • The Order Entry page
  • The order table on a product page
  • Shopping Lists

The first two locations are described below, where you'll also find instructions on scheduling Order Reminders. Continue reading to learn more, or go to Tutorial Videos and watch "Placing Orders."

Order Entry

How do I get to the Order Entry page?
The "Order Entry" link can be found at the top of the page. Select the link to begin.

How does the Order Entry page work?
The table on the page allows you to build an order by adding any part number, unit (each, pack, case), and quantity for each item you need. Or, yuo can enter a part number and press "Enter" on your keyboard; the search engine will provide cross-referenced results for you to consider. These results can be added to the Shopping Basket.



How do I use Order Entry?
Enter the VWR Catalog Number along with the unit and quantity in each row. Then press "Enter" on your keyboard. If you don't know the units in which a product is sold, press "Enter" after typing the catalog number.

The table will provide you with units to select, or, a "Resolve Now" link will appear. When you select this link, a smaller window will open and show choices that you can select.



What if I don't have the VWR Catalog Number?
Enter a supplier, manufacturer, or competitor part number, and press "Enter" on your keyboard. will cross-reference the number with one or more available VWR Catalog Numbers. Select the "Resolve Now" link that appears in the row. A smaller window will open and show choices that you can select.



Can I add rows to the Order Entry table?
Yes. The initial table has 10 rows. If you need to add rows, select from the row quantities in the drop-down menu above the table (right side). Then click the "Add" button.



Can I delete products that I've added to the table?
Yes. Click the red "x" on the far-right side of each row that needs to be deleted.



What do I do when my Order Entry table is complete?
Select the "Add to Basket" button. Your products will be added to your Shopping Basket for this session.



How do I upload my own list of products?
If you have a list of products in an Excel spreadsheet, you can add the list to the Order Entry table or Shopping Basket. Follow these instructions to create, save, and upload your list:

1. Using Excel, create a file with three columns

  • Place each VWR Catalog Number in column A
  • Place each valid unit of measure in column B (i.e. "ea" for each)
  • Place each quantity in column C
  • Save the Excel file for future use

2. Save your list as a .CSV file

  • Open the Excel file containing your list of products
  • In the "File" menu, select "Save As"
  • Choose a folder and name your list
  • In the "Save as type" drop-down menu, select "CSV (Comma delimited)"
  • Click the "Save" button

3. On the Order Entry page (or Shopping Basket page), select the "Browse" button, select your file, then click "Upload."





Ordering from a Product Page

On a product page, how do I add items to the Shopping Basket?
In the order table below the product description, find the quantity field shown next to the product (and correct unit) that you need to order. In this field, enter the quantity needed, then click the "Add to Basket" button.



Can I select multiple items on a product page before adding to the Shopping Basket?
Yes. Enter the quantity you need in each field, then click the "Add to Basket" button.



How do I know that something as been added to the Shopping Basket? will let you know that an item(s) has been added. To view a snapshot of total items in the Shopping Basket (without exiting the product page), click the "i" button at the top-right of the page, above the top navigation bar.

When you're ready to view Shopping Basket details or check out, select the basket icon at the top-right of the page, above the top navigation bar.

Scheduling Order Reminders

How do I schedule an Order Reminder?
You can tell to notify you (via e-mail) of the need to order specific products periodically. To do this, the products need to be saved and uploaded to as a Personal Shopping List.

Once the products are in one of your Personal Shopping Lists on the site, you can schedule an Order Reminder from the Personal Shopping Lists page. A link to this page can be found in the left navigation menu.

On the Personal Shopping Lists tab, select the "Schedule Reminder" link shown next to the list that contains the products you need to order regularly or periodically (in both cases, an Order Reminder is very useful). A window will appear, allowing you to specify when and how often an Order Reminder should be sent to you. Choose your calendar settings, then click "Save."



Where can I view the Order Reminders I have scheduled?
In the left navigation menu, you'll find an "Order Reminders" link. After selecting this link, the Order Reminders page provides a snapshot of the reminders you have scheduled. Place an order from this view by selecting the Order Name. You will then be able to add items to the Shopping Basket.



How do I edit or cancel scheduled Order Reminders
After selecting the "Order Reminders" link from the left navigation menu, beside each Order Reminder, find an "Edit Schedule" link and a "Cancel" box. Make any necessary changes, then click "Submit."
